The Greediness Score: explainable insider trading scores
The Greediness Score is a transparent 0-100 rating of how much structural conviction a public filing shows - who traded, how unusually large the trade was for that person, how fast it was disclosed, and who traded alongside them. Unlike black-box "signals", every factor and weight is documented, inspectable, and user-adjustable.
The six Form 4 factors
Insider role: C-suite executives see the most, so their trades weigh more than a generic officer’s or an outside 10% owner’s. Cluster activity: 3+ insiders of the same company trading together within 7 days. Trade size vs. history: this trade compared to the same person’s own average - not raw dollars.
Position impact: how much the trade changed the insider’s total stake. Filing urgency: how quickly the Form 4 followed the trade within the 2-business-day window. Direct ownership: shares held personally versus through trusts or family entities.
Honest about missing data
When a filing lacks the data a factor needs (for example, a first-time filer has no trade history), that factor is excluded and its weight is redistributed - and scores built on thin data are capped and labeled "low confidence". A number built on missing inputs should not look confident.
Scores fall into four bands: Strong (80-100), Moderate (60-79), Mixed (40-59), and Weak (0-39). Strong means many independent factors aligned - it is a prioritization aid, not a prediction.
Personalize the model
The Greediness tab shows every factor, its default weight, and three worked example filings computed step by step. You can re-weight any factor to match your own thesis, preview the effect live, and apply your weights to the entire feed on your device.
The same score family covers congressional STOCK Act disclosures and Schedule 13D activist filings, each with its own calibrated factor set. Nothing here is investment advice; our own historical validation has not demonstrated predictive power, and we say so plainly.
