Total Return Securities: a Greediness Score of 80 on a $52,000 buy
Position impact and a chief executive role put a $52,000 open-market buy in the Strong band. A sort by dollars would have buried it under the equity awards filed the same week.
What the Greediness Score saw
On the 29 September 2026 Strong-band feed, Andrew Dakos, president and chief executive of the Total Return Securities Fund (SWZ), scored 80 with high confidence. The row is a direct buy of 9,000 shares at $5.77, about $51,930, traded 28 September and filed 29 September. The explanation cites his role and a large change in stake. There is no cluster in the reason line.
Large change in stake is the position-impact factor: how much the trade moved the insider's holding, not how large it looks in dollars. Insider role is the other input, and a chief executive sits at the top of that factor. High confidence means both had data. The number 80 is the Strong threshold. The explanation is what makes the number usable.
Why $52,000 is the point
The same export includes Scorpio Tankers awards of about $19.5 million, scored 84 and 86 for role and cluster, and Franklin Financial director lots of a few thousand dollars, scored 80 for cluster and director role. Sort that list by value and Dakos disappears. Sort it by Greediness Score and he is in the same band, for a reason the row states.
That is the product. Each filing type is scored on its own factors, the weights are published, and the feed writes the factors that fired next to the number. You do not have to infer why a small buy outranked a large one. The explanation already said position impact and role.
What the Form 4 says
The filing reports common stock and transaction code P. There are four direct lots. On 25 September: 7,649 shares at $5.81, then 2,351 at $5.82, with direct holdings moving from 47,649 to 50,000. On 28 September: 1,000 shares at $5.76, then 9,000 at $5.77, ending at 60,000 shares held directly. The scored row is the last lot. The stake change the score is describing sits on that filing, not in the $51,930 figure alone.
The same Form 4 reports 131,000 shares held indirectly by a limited partnership. Dakos disclaims that interest except to the extent of his pecuniary interest. Direct ownership is its own, smaller factor. The scored row is the direct lot. Read the indirect line before you describe the whole position as 60,000 shares.
One score, one row, one filing
The feed scored a single lot. The Form 4 has four purchases across two days. A Greediness Score belongs to the transaction in that row. Add the other lots yourself if you want a total, and keep direct separate from indirect.
Total Return Securities is a closed-end fund. A high-confidence 80 on a code P buy by its chief executive is the pattern the Form 4 model is built to raise. It is a ranking of that filing's structure. It is not a statement about the portfolio, or about what the shares will do next.
What the score does not prove
Code P means the filing reports an open-market purchase. The score means role and position impact cleared the Strong band with complete inputs. Together they are a reason to read this row ahead of a routine print. They do not disclose why Dakos bought, they do not prove he used non-public information, and they do not forecast the fund.
